La casa Mirador está ubicada en una pequeña bahía dentro de un lago en la Patagonia. Lago que tiene como particularidad que no se puede acceder por tierra; solo por agua en bote, lo que ya significa un desafío llevar a cabo la construcción del proyecto.

El encargo era diseñar una casa para una familia muy numerosa, con varios dormitorios y que todos los recintos y espacios comunes debían tener vista al lago y el volcán Osorno, icono y referente geográfico en el lugar. Esta casa debía ser muy luminosa y poder aprovechar la mayor cantidad de luz natural posible a lo largo del día; con la dificultad de estar inmersa en un bosque nativo de coihues.

El primer paso fue definir el emplazamiento en el lugar; un plano con vista despejada hacia el lago y el volcán con orientación Norte para aprovechar el máximo de luz; con un respaldo frondoso de bosque nativo con árboles de 20 mts. de alto que cubre toda la loma y cumple la función de un muro natural, protegiéndola del viento y la lluvia.

La casa se desarrolla en un solo nivel; se plantea en dos volúmenes independientes y un espacio transparente entre ellos que configura el acceso y los conecta entre sí. El primer volumen alberga: los dormitorios y baños de hijos e invitados y el segundo volumen: Las áreas comunes (living – comedor, cocina. sala de estar y dormitorio principal.  De esta manera se puede usar solo parte de la casa, en invierno cuando no va toda la familia.

Todos los recintos habitables en la casa: Living – comedor, sala de estar, dormitorios están orientados al norte para tener una vista panorámica al lago y volcán e iluminación natural directa todo el día. Los recintos de transito como: cocina, baños y pasillos; están orientados al sur con vista al bosque nativo y luz natural indirecta.

El gran desafío de este proyecto era poder construir una casa, con todas las dificultades que implica el traslado de materiales y mano de obra existente en el lugar. El diseño se planteó en base a estructura metálica tipo mecano que se fue construyendo en secciones e incorporando materiales de propios de la zona como revestimiento madera para el interior en cielos y muros, piedra en los muros estructurales y cuadrolines para el exterior por su baja mantención y durabilidad.

The Lookout House is located in a little bay in a Lake inside the patagonia. This lake’s main feature is that it is impossible to reach by land; only through water, by boat. This means that the construction of this project is an important challenge to carry.

​

The assignment was to design a house for a numerous family, with several bedrooms and that all the enclosures and common areas must have a lake and a Osorno Volcano view, which are icons and geographic landmarks of this area. The house must be very luminous and it was important to be able to use natural light in the best way possible, throughout the day, we had to consider the challenge of it being immerse in a native forest of Coihues.

The first step was to define the location on the area; a flat land a clear view towards the lake and the volcano, with a north orientation, to make the most of the natural light, with a leafy native forest behind it, with trees of 20 meter high, covering the whole hill, working ad a natural wall protecting it from the wind and rain.

The house is developed on a single level; it is planned in two independent areas and a clear space between them that sets the access and it connects them both. The first area consists of: the dorm rooms and bathrooms for the children and guests, and the second area consists of: common areas (living room, dinning room, kitchen, lounge area and main bedroom). This way, only a part of the house can be used during winter, when not the whole family is there.

All the habitable areas in the house: Living room, dinning room, lounge area and bedrooms are facing north in order to have a panoramic sight of the lake and the volcano; and direct natural lighting during the whole day. The passage areas like: kitchen, bathrooms and corridors are facing south with a native forest view and indirect natural light.

The biggest challenge of this project was to be able to build the house, with all the obstacles that the materials transportation and manpower it meant, in that area. The design was presented based on a Meccano style metallic structure that was built in sections and incorporating local materials like a wooden overlay for the interiors in ceilings and walls, stone in structural walls and cuadrolines for the exterior due to its low maintenance and its durability.
